Our old lady, the 300+ year old mulberry tree, is always the sleepiest tree in the garden and wakes up long after all the other trees are fully leaved again. This morning, we see signs that it is emerging from hibernation and the first leaves are opening. From now on, the process is quick and there will be little fruits popping up in no time. We collect as many of these as we can and use them to make delicious mulberry jam, which we serve with our homemade, seeded, whole wheat bread at breakfast. The tree is a prolific fruiter, and despite our best picking efforts - and in combination with birds, guests, delivery men and staff - there is always fruit in abundance. Welcome back, old lady.
