Exciting News for Nature Lovers!

Gauteng is about to get three brand-new protected areas—adding 434 hectares to the province’s conservation estate! And that’s not all: 338 hectares more will be added to the existing Crocodile River Reserve north of Diepsloot!

The new protected areas:

🏞️ Windy Brow Game Reserve
🏞️ Sehkoeng (Northeast of Cullinan)
🏞️ Smuts Koppie (Irene, Pretoria)

These areas have been voluntarily offered by private citizens 🫶 as part of a national push to safeguard our precious biodiversity.

Why it matters:

🌍 Windy Brow Game Reserve protects two vulnerable ecosystems
🌍 The areas include critical biodiversity zones, wetlands, ridges, and habitats for vulnerable plant species
🌍 Ridges help recharge rivers, support pollinators, and offer stunning landscapes for all to enjoy the expansion of the Crocodile River Reserve supports the protection of the critically endangered Egoli Granite Grassland—found nowhere else on Earth.

With three perennial rivers—the Crocodile, Jukskei, and Hennops—flowing through it, this region is a biodiversity gem worth preserving.
