From affectionate greetings to a sudden burst of action, this wild dog encounter offered two very different sides of pack life.

The dogs were interacting closely when a hyena wandered into the area, prompting a swift chase that sent the visitor on its way. Moments later, the pack gathered again. It is this mix of social connection and quick responses to the world around them that makes observing African wild dogs at Simbavati Camp George so fascinating.

We have a feeling you might want to leave some room for dessert.

Between the beautifully plated savoury dishes, fresh colours and chocolate treats topped with strawberries and cream, there is plenty to tempt you at Simbavati Amani. The kitchen certainly knows how to make a plate look inviting, and we rather like the idea of having something delicious to look forward to between safari adventures.

Good design does not always need to make a statement. Sometimes, its greatest strength lies in how naturally it fits into its surroundings.
At Simbavati River Sands, the swimming pool curves around natural-looking rock formations, while the open living spaces look out towards the surrounding bushveld. And beyond the comfort of the villa, the landscape remains wonderfully alive, with zebras making an appearance across the riverbed in this view.
It is a lovely reminder of what makes staying in the heart of the Timbavati so special.

Who knew a patch of mud could be so interesting? On a walking safari, tracks like these become part of the experience, offering clues about the animals that have moved through the area. With the knowledge of a trails guide, even the smallest details can lead to fascinating conversations about the wildlife around us.

Yet at Simbavati Trails Camp, it fits naturally into the rhythm of the experience, offering a refreshing place to unwind between walks. It is the people behind the scenes who make a stay feel truly special.

Meet Mampuru Thobejane, a valued member of the team at Simbavati River Lodge, who began his journey with us in 2019 as a Night Watchman at Simbavati Hilltop Lodge.

Over the years, Mampuru has shown a wonderful willingness to lend a hand wherever it is needed, including assisting with butler duties. His helpful nature and team spirit reflect the genuine care and warm hospitality that are so important to us.

It is people like Mampuru who bring the heart of Simbavati River Lodge to life, and we are grateful to have him as part of our team.

Not for sensitive viewers.
You never quite know what is happening in the dam at Simbavati Waterside. One moment, a large crocodile is captured on night vision as it slides into the dark water. In another, the incredible force of a crocodile's jaws is revealed as it feeds on a buck. These scenes are a reminder that the wilderness is constantly moving, changing and revealing sides of itself that we do not often get to witness.

A lion sighting is also a glimpse into a much larger landscape. Simbavati River Sands Villa lies within the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, part of an open ecosystem where unfenced boundaries with Kruger and neighbouring reserves allow wildlife to move across a vast wilderness. That freedom of movement is an important part of the conservation story here. A quiet portrait like this can therefore speak to something much bigger than a single encounter.

What changes when the walls between lodge and landscape almost disappear? At Simbavati Hilltop, open sides, elevated timber decking and soft seating allow the bush to remain close even when you are resting between drives. The lodge sits on a ridge overlooking the Nhlaralumi River and Mbali Dam, so a quiet hour in the lounge can still feel connected to everything beyond it. There is space to read, talk or simply look out, with the changing view providing more than enough reason not to hurry elsewhere.

The wonderfully tousled feathers, that bright amber eye and a rather serious expression make this young Bateleur quite a character. Being able to observe it at close range gave us a chance to appreciate features that are easily missed from a distance. There is a particular pleasure in moments like these, when the beauty of a sighting lies in its finer details.
