There is a different rhythm to the wild in the Cederberg. Just 2½ hours north of Cape Town, Simbavati Cederberg Ridge looks out across a broad valley towards the region’s raw sandstone mountains, where changing light, open skies and rugged landscapes shape the view throughout the day.
Set on a 3,000-hectare working citrus and table-grape farm near Clanwilliam, the lodge brings together the warmth of a contemporary African farmhouse and a strong connection to its surroundings. Eleven spacious rooms and suites open onto deep terraces, indigenous gardens meet the veld, and two pools offer peaceful places to watch the light move across the landscape.
Days can be as active or as unhurried as you choose. Follow trails on foot or by mountain bike, discover ancient rock art, visit the farm to learn more about rooibos and citrus, or take to Clanwilliam Dam on a seasonal boat cruise. After dark, star talks turn attention to the vast Cederberg sky.
Then there are the quieter hours. Dinner on the deck, conversation beside the firepit and the mountains close by as another day draws to an end. At Simbavati Cederberg Ridge, wilderness is less about chasing the next moment and more about having the space to notice where you are.
