OUT & ABOUT
a 35 minute drive towards Fouriesberg, the Meiringskloof Nature Park is a must visit for any outdoor adventurer, hiking enthusiast and nature lover.
Our favourite hike is a round trip hike called The Water Tunnels.
it's a 2 - 3 hour/5km hike that takes you through the most amazing sections that have been formed by water erosion over 1000's of years. You will pass through the famous 'Holkrans' (Hollow Cave) and 'Boesmangrot' (Khoisan Cave) which has an incredible Stalagmite column made by mineral deposits a fairy like waterfall formed by the overflowing fountains high up above. a few intact Khiosan paintings can be seen as well as a visible layer in the rock that has small white bone fragments from the dinosaur period.
Chain Ladder, a 10m high chain ladder pops you out on top of slabs of sandstone that lead you to Fouriesberg dam. carrying on past the dam's edge, white markers take you to the top of the dam and then down to the dams feeder stream which you can wade through the shallow waters through interesting rock ceilings carved out by water.
An easy route onto of the cliff, takes you back to the Meiringskloof Nature Park. reception area.
For those of you who can't do heights and loose ladders, there is another way to get up instead of using the chain ladder. Jacob's ladder is a route where you use a chain to pull yourself up to the top part and onto the the Fouriesberg Dam.
The entry fee is only R25 per person hiking.
