Our Story

This beautiful Country Retreat & Conservancy is nestled in a valley between the small rural farming villages of Ficksburg & Clocolan, in the Eastern Free State Highlands of South Africa, with views that stretch to the majestic Maluti Mountains in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho in the south east.

The Retreat is remote yet accessible, set on 420 acres of a Re-wilded Conservancy where guests have unhindered access to roam a privately owned mountain, there are laid out walks, hikes, birding, small mammals, cycling, swimming with awesome 360 degree views, the stars at night magnificent, great day drives, close by golf, quaint villages, galleries and eateries, the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho, crop festivals, and wonderful cherries in the summer season.

The EarthStone Family Self Catering Cottages are large, spacious, comfortably furnished, with magnificent views & are built and spaced well apart for complete seclusion and privacy so rare today in an overcrowded world. Open plan, with lounge/dining area with big comfy couches, a huge open fire, a kitchen fully equipped with stove, microwave, family size fridge, cooking utensil, good quality cutlery and crockery and a weber braai on the deck. The double sized bedrooms are en suite or private, with pampering large bathrooms. Large glass doors and windows in both bedrooms and living areas lead out onto the covered veranda for a seamless and free flowing living space. Ample safe parking is provided behind the cottages and free WiFi is available at the main reception area.

SkyWind Self Catering Cottages are gloriously, luxuriantly comfortable, intimate, beautifully decorated and furnished. Built from hand hewn sandstone blocks, barn style with high beamed ceiling, tin roof & cement painted floors. The combustion wood burning fires, king size beds dressed in beautiful percale linen with a big cosy duvets & heated blankets are ideal for chilly Highland winters. The open plan spaciousness, beautiful pampering bath and enclosed sandstone shower and toilet, a fully equipped kitchen, a weber braai on the patio-with-a-view, this all comes together to define these awesome dwelling place for just two people in quietness, space and luxury. Ample safe parking is provided behind the cottages and free WiFi is available at the main reception area.
