Daar is 'n besondere skouspel in Dana Baai wanneer die dolfyne in die water speel en die golwe trotseer .Dit is 'n ongelooflike ervaring om hulle te aanskou terwyl hulle deur die waters van die Baai swem. Hierdie oomblikke herinner ons aan die skoonheid en vryheid van die see, en ons moet dit koester en beskerm vir toekomstige geslagte om ook te ervaar.

There is a special spectacle in Dana Bay when the dolphins play in the water and ride the waves with their graceful presence. It is an incredible experience to observe them as they swim through the waters of the Bay. These moments remind us of the beauty and freedom of the sea, and we must cherish and protect it for future generations to experience as well.

Very few people may be truly aware of it, but Dana Bay is an urban conservancy where animals always have the right of way. It is only fitting that residents and visitors alike remember this when traversing the area.

We request all individuals, residents and visitors alike, to be aware of this. Do not destroy or harm anything related to the natural environment. Bear in mind that the wild animals are protected in the Conservancy and take care not to maim or kill them when driving.

Animals have right of way at all times!

This area is exceptionally blessed to still host a variety of free roaming animals. It is not uncommon to find bushbuck, mongoose, tortoise, porcupine, guineafowl and Cape spurfowl visiting your garden. You may even find the grysbok if you are fortunate enough. There is a breeding pair of rock kestrel, jackal buzzard and on the cliffs not far is a pair of peregrine falcons. A list of common birds in the area is to be found below. Snakes are a regular occurrence such as Cape cobra and puffadder. The fire department plays an important role in capturing them and releasing them further away.

Mossel Bay is famous for its excellent wild and marine life. We’re here to tell you all about some of our favourite sea creatures to spot while staying at Danabay.

Dolphins can also be found in the Danabay waters. Frequent sightings occur right on our doorstep , as well as near the harbour and along the St Blaize hiking trail. Schools of dolphins can be spotted all year around and the most common ones found are the Heaviside’s Dolphin, Common Dolphin, Dusky Dolphin, and Bottlenose Dolphin. In 2021 there was a very rare sighting of Humpback Dolphins swimming with a new-born Common Dolphin along the harbour wall. Experts say that the calf must’ve only been a few days old. The schools can be anywhere in size from 50 to 500 dolphins.

🐬🌊 Ongelooflik om te sien! Vandag het ‘n skool dolfyne kom speel in die golwe by DanaBaai. Daar was so baie van hulle, en dit was pragtig! Moenie hierdie wonderlike skouspel misloop nie!

🐬🌊 Absolutely incredible to see! Today, a pod of dolphins was playing in the waves at Dana Bay. There were so many of them, and it was beautiful! Don't miss out on this amazing spectacle!

Sunrise is such a beautiful phenomenon, isn't it? The way it paints the sky with vibrant colors and signals the start of a new day always fills me with a sense of wonder.

📍 Point of Human Origins , Mossel Bay. 😍😲🤩🇿🇦

Mossel Bay is at the centre of some of the most significant archaeological discoveries ever made regarding the origins of modern humans.

Archaeologists Dr. Peter Nilssen and Jonathon Kaplan first identified Pinnacle Point’s historic significance during an environmental impact assessment in 1997 ahead of the construction of the Pinnacle Point golf estate and adjacent Garden Route Casino.

Investigating seaside cliffs below the estate, they immediately recognised the value of the fossilised sediment piled high against the cave wall, which was later shown to contain a deluge of archaeological evidence, including the remains of stone artefacts, pieces of shell, charcoal from fires, pigment in the form of ochre, shards of bone and debris from the manufacture of tools.

The original cave is one of 54 heritage sites ranging from open shell middens to geological and cave sites, and represents one of the densest concentrations of Stone Age sites in the world. They were declared a Western Cape Provincial Heritage Site in 2012, an initial step in a bid towards gaining recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
