28.7 km by wheelchair....!👩‍🦽

The 3rd of December is the
International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Oudtshoorn APD (The Oudtshoorn Association for Persons with Disabilities) has been providing vital services to 97 children and adults with severe and profound disabilities, and the disabled persons in Dysselsdorp don't have a shelter against the winter cold and summer sun.

Anyone of us can become disabled at any time of our lives, and we at Pediatric Care Africa will and intend to help the disabled people in our community.

This is what we are going to do to help buy a shelter for the disabled persons in Dysselsdorp.

At 08h00 on the 3rd December 2026 our Dr André Hattingh will ride from the APD center in Dysselsdorp to the CP Nel museum in Oudtshoorn by wheelchair, a trip of approx 6 hours and a distance of 28.7km to raise funds for the shelter at the Dysselsdorp APD.

Plan:

We need volunteers to push André on the wheelchair all the way by road, and a minimum of 14 "pushers" are needed to make this fundraising event a success.

The more persons participating the better, as a 100 persons is much more impactfull than 14 persons.

We will have support vehicles with warning signs, and white flashing lights both infront and behind the procession with the traffic depts assistance for additional safety.

We will utilize the emergency lane next to the road during the walk.

Water will be freely available for the entire route and a Doctor/Nurse will travel with us to assist anyone needing a bit of TLC.

Depending on climatic conditions and temperature each person will push the wheelchair a max of 2000m. More persons means shorter pushing distances. If you get tired you can climb aboard one of the support vehicles at any time.

We will be accompanied along the route by disabled persons and into Oudtshoorn by disabled persons from APD and the community.

Dust of your walking shoes, get a team together or come by yourself, put sunscreen and a hat on and join us for 2km or the whole 28.7km's please.
