The storm in early May reminded us how powerful nature can be.
Meiringspoort flooded, the approach to Skansdrif was washed away, and for a time Meijer’s Rust was completely cut off. We had to close our chalets, cancel bookings, and even pause getting cattle to market.

But the Karoo is resilient — and so are the people who care for it.

Over the past weeks, the road crews have worked with incredible dedication, often in difficult and dangerous conditions, to restore access to our valley. Thanks to their hard work, a temporary crossing is now in place, the road is fully passable, and we’re open again.

And Meiringspoort… it’s something extraordinary right now. Quiet. Raw. Peaceful. A place you can walk without a single car passing you — just rock, water, ferns, and the deep stillness of the mountains.

If you’ve ever wanted to experience the poort in its purest form, this is the moment.

Meiringspoort Trail run:
Busy weekend ahead: Trail run and Mountian bike challenges on Saturday. Tomorrow from 17:00 🍔 hamburgers, chicken stirfry, vetkoek and mince will be available. The steakbraai is at 6 o'clock. Tickets available at N G Kerk Church Hall.
On Saturday Kerrie & rys will also be available plus abovementioned excluding steak. The mini bazaar commences at 8 o'clock. This includes the ever popular vleistafel, pannekoek and other eats and treats.
