Happy 91st birthday to the East London Aquarium, which is officially the oldest aquarium in South Africa.
East London first considered a proposal to establish a municipal aquarium in 1912, but it was not only 1930 that the City Council enlisted renowned zoologist Dr Jacob Nanni to advise on the design and construction of the facility.
It was completed the following year, and was officially opened to the public on 2 December 1931.
