Epitomising the gourmet capital of South Africa, La Residence is unashamedly the very best on offer. La Residence is located in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley and represents the epitome of luxury. La Residence joined Royal Malewane and Birkenhead House as the third property in Liz and Phil Biden's Royal Portfolio in 2008. The hotel consists of 11 distinctive and luxurious suites and each room ha

s its own identity with a unique character and individual colour scheme. Liz’s impeccable style and never-ending attention to detail have resulted in a lavish and luxurious, yet remarkably homely and comfortable, feeling throughout. The farm currently grows a great variety of fruits, vegetables and flowers. Our kitchen uses our produce for their seasonally inspired menus and has access to an abundance of plums, hanepoot grapes, figs, pomegranates, lemons, artichokes, tomatoes, quince, lettuce, squashes and leafy green vegetables, as well as several herbs, to name but a few. We also grow two varieties of olives on our farm. Our frantoio olives are pressed for their fruity, aromatic oil and our mission olives are cured and served from our kitchen. Our vineyards occupy a large portion of our small 30-acre farm. We grow Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes and our maiden 2010 vintage was bottled on 2 January 2011. The vines are cared for and maintained by our farming staff. Come harvest time, our grapes are sent off to a local wine farm, where they are crushed, fermented, stabilised and bottled by local winemaker DP Burger. The five Vineyard Suites are family friendly and each is unique in its configuration and décor. The suites are fully serviced and our chef is on hand to prepare seasonally inspired rustic French country cuisine in The Terrace Room.

The mountains rise, dramatic and still. A fire burns softly in the background. A glass of wine in hand, nothing needed, nowhere to be.

Meet Eddy, our Farm Manager who leads from the ground up. Hands in the earth, boots worn in, he works alongside his team to plant, prune, harvest and rebuild, season after season.

It’s a shared effort. Early mornings, long days and a deep respect for what the land gives back. Every orchard, every garden bed, every ingredient is the result of care, commitment and a team dedicated to cultivating something truly beautiful.

Olive harvest season is here

Picking begins early morning on the groves at La Residence amidst the beautiful gardens. It’s all hands on deck for this year’s harvest.

In the Franschhoek Valley, golden sunshine yields exceptional fruit, handpicked, pressed, and bottled right here on the farm. An expression of place, season and time.

At La Residence, time takes on a slower rhythm. Mornings linger a little longer, afternoons stretch into golden hour, and gently give way to evening. A place defined by stillness, where slow living comes naturally.

The final grapes of the 2026 harvest were picked last week, marking the culmination of a year of dedication in the vineyards 🍇 While harvest may last only a short time, the real work happens throughout the year to nurture healthy vines and ensure a high-quality, abundant crop.

Syrah for our Rosemary Jane Rosé and Nicole Alexandra red, together with Cabernet Sauvignon for our blends and Owner’s Reserve, is now safely in the cellar. Early signs point to exceptional quality and we look forward to sharing this new vintage with our guests in time.

With harvest complete, our attention turns to the future. A new section of vineyard will soon be planted with Grenache, bringing another beautiful dimension to the rosé and red blends still to come.
