WHAT ARE SUNDAYS FOR? ☕🍰

Sundays are for all the things you didn’t get around to during the week… & all the things you said no to because life was simply too busy.

So today, give yourself permission to slow down.

Fill your day with something fun, decadent, delicious & comforting. A little indulgence. A second cup of coffee. Something sweet, a good conversation, or simply a moment to sit back & enjoy where you are.

& if that something sweet happens to be a slice of homemade cake, dusted with icing sugar & served with a little extra love… well, who are we to say no? 😉

MONDAY MORNING HAS ARRIVED… 🐋

How’s your week starting?

Ours has been gifted with the magic of whales.

Right here in front of Whalesong Lodge, this little southern right whale calf is busy practicing life as a whale.

Walker Bay is one of the great southern right whale nurseries. The whales return to these waters to calve, nurse their young & begin the cycle all over again.

So we get to watch the next generation learning the ropes.

Playing.
Exploring.
Practising.

Including lobtailing … lifting that enormous tail out of the water & bringing it down with a mighty slap.

But look a little closer…

Almost white.
Little black freckles.

Meet Brindle.

Brindle is a rare colour form of the southern right whale, present from birth. Around 4% of southern right whales are brindle, making this little guy rather special.

So while we’re watching him master the art of being a whale, we’re also getting a glimpse of something quite unusual.

And what a way to start a Monday.

If the week starts like this, imagine what the rest of it can hold.

Helllooo… meet our youngest family member!

Yesterday brought tears of joy, shock & ecstatic surprise when Manageress Antje’s children surprised her with the most unexpected gift… a gorgeous little Bengal boy. ❤️

For now, he’s tiny, shy & a little frightened, quietly taking in this strange new world around him.

But give him a little time… soon he’ll find his feet, discover his confidence & no doubt find his way into everyone’s hearts. 🐾

There’s just one thing missing…

He needs a name.

Something that suits this beautiful little boy as he grows into the wild, magnificent Bengal he’s destined to be.

So we’re putting it out to you…

What should we call him?
Bengali, regal, wild, cheeky… surprise us! 🐆✨

His story is only just beginning…

Okay, let’s look at what we’ve been up to…

For those of you who didn’t visit us last season, meet Milkwood, our freestanding house tucked away in the back garden at Whalesong Lodge.

Starting out on the back deck, you step into the kitchen, with a coffee & tea station where you can help yourself whenever you fancy.

Then there’s the dining room, where our Whalesong Lodge team will prepare your breakfast, a beautiful lounge for settling in, an honesty bar for a little something later, & a snoozing corner made for those lazy, lazy afternoons.

And all through the house, that beautiful sunlight… streaming in, moving with the day & making itself very much at home.

Private, peaceful & surrounded by the garden, with the old Milkwood tree just outside.

Everyone looking for a little warmth! ☀️

Cliff walks in between the much-needed rain showers & crossing paths with some of the De Kelders local residents — the dassies.

These little creatures might look like oversized guinea pigs, but their closest living relatives are actually elephants & sea cows! They love soaking up the sun to warm themselves & are excellent climbers, with specialised feet that give them an incredible grip on the rocks.

A little warmth | a good view | life on the cliffs. 🪨🌿

Just another day at Whalesong Lodge, on the edge of the wild.
