DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BRINDLE AND ALBINO WHALES. 🐳

An albino whale has a complete lack of skin pigmentation, resulting in an all-white body and typically red or pink eyes, whereas a brindle whale is born bright white with black speckling or a dark collar that naturally darkens to grey as it grows older.

Albinism is a rare genetic condition causing a complete absence of melanin, meaning the whale stays white for life and often features pinkish or reddish eyes.

Brindle coloration is a specific genetic pattern (linked to the X chromosome) where southern right whale calves are born bright white with dark spots or a speckled black collar around the neck.

Aging and Color Change: True albinos do not change color over time. In contrast, brindle whales gradually darken as they mature, turning a mottled grey color as adults.

Brindle coloring occurs in about 3% to 4% of southern right whale births, and an overwhelming 94% of those brindle calves are male. Albinism remains exceptionally rare across all cetacean species and affects males and females equally.
