Ferndale 4x4 Trail:
The Ferndale 4x4 Trails create a veritable playground for the adventurous. They are situated in the mountain ranges of South Africa, just outside the small Eastern Cape town of Cathcart, where the temperatures are extreme, the countryside untouched and the people warm and friendly. The Amathole Mountain Range is breathtaking in its beauty and scale, and makes for an idyllic backdrop to your 4x4 adventure.
The route comprises four different trails, which can be linked and connected by the drivers wanting to test their skills and vehicles. They are graded three to five, and can all be driven in either direction.
Although the Ferndale 4x4 Trails are open all year round, it should be noted that winters become extremely cold here, sometimes with snowfall. The trails take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours to complete, as drivers are free to decide how they would like to tackle their route choices. They are made up of a variety of terrains; from rock and loose rock to boulders, water crossings and gravel.
