🌿 A Farewell to Shayamoya 🌿
As many of you know, Shayamoya is no longer. I’d like to share a final post, but honestly, I’m feeling pretty exhausted right now. At the moment, I’m at our home in Tinley Manor, unpacking boxes and taking a moment to breathe.
What are my plans? To decompress, reflect, and find my focus again. The past few weeks have been emotionally heavy...stressful and sad, but at the same time, I’ve been overwhelmed by the incredible support from our friends in the Pongola area. Thank you all so much....you’ve all gone out of your way without expecting anything in return, and I couldn’t have navigated this massive transition without you.
A heartfelt shoutout to our neighbours at Harloo, Tamboti, Pongola Game Reserve, the security groups, and SAPS...you’ve shown a special kindness and strength that meant the world to me.
I’ve received so many messages of love and encouragement from our guests, family, and friends, which has truly bolstered me through this journey. My team....my Shayamoya family, have been unwavering and dedicated; I am so grateful for their support in keeping everything together.
I’m relieved to have secured most of our staff new positions, and just knowing they’re taken care of brings me some peace, at least.
As I reflect on the business built with so much love and passion for nature, I feel a mix of nostalgia and gratitude. Seeing the items go during the auction was emotional; I knew the stories behind each piece. Thanks to John Kirk, the auctioneer, and his team for making the day both fun and memorable....even if it was a long one! Everything was sold, except our fishing boat and game viewer, which I plan to market privately.
Thank you all for being part of this chapter. Shayamoya was more than a lodge—it was a dream, a home, and a community. Here’s to new beginnings and the memories we’ve shared.
