This is what our 80th birthday party maker had to say:

“Wildekrans Country House is in the most beautiful location, set in lovely gardens with Mountain Views. The art inside the main farmhouse and in the gardens is a delight, and the rooms are well-appointed, spacious and clean. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for - a beautiful place to stay and delicious food - well worth the spend! The staff are friendly, efficient and just wonderful in every respect. I will be back!”

This Sunday we harvested (and ate) our first 2026 crop.👩‍🌾👨‍🌾

Winter brings sunset orange hues to the gardens of Wildekrans Country House.
The bright orange Chasmanth, Red Hot Pokers and firey aloes add warmth and attract the sunbirds.

The blooming Magnolia trees reminds us of the consistency of nature’s rewards.

Our eight treasured almond trees, cleverly planted fifteen years ago by Barry Gould are already blossoming.

Visit before our winter rates come to an end and enjoy the winter splendour and fireside evenings.

P.S. diarise the Elgin Open Gardens’ weekends of 30 October and 06 November.

P.P.S. The almonds are saved for wheat free chocolate almond cakes through the year.

George Coutouvidis’ Barbara Cartland Meets Her Man, hangs in Art Room at Wildekrans Country House.
It keeps company with a 1990’s Deborah Bell ceramic from a group show she did with Robert Hodgins and William Kentridge back in the day.

The small art collection that gives this bedroom its name also includes , Hester de Beer and textile artist .

The headboard fabric is a Skinny laMinx design, a cosy room in winter with underfloor heating.

Kalk Bay Modern says of Coutouvidis, “unmistakable work which is almost exclusively oil on canvas (with some charcoal on paper) has been described as “postmodern cartoonism””. His distinctive statements, style and palette are unique and make his work highly sought after.

Keeping ourselves busy by making lemonade while the sun struggles to shine. 🌥

Our lemonade celebrates the “old Cape lemon” (known scientifically as Citrus jambhiri), historically celebrated for its thick, bumpy, rough-textured yellow skin and sweet-sour juice.🍋

The tree was introduced to South Africa in the 17th century by the Dutch East India Company. It was famously planted by Jan van Riebeeck in the Company’s Gardens in Cape Town to supply passing sailors with fresh citrus to prevent scurvy.
