A rare and special sighting on Fort Governor’s! 🐾🌿

Our camera traps have captured a brown hyena moving through the Estate - a truly unusual and exciting glimpse of one of Africa’s more elusive predators.

Brown hyenas are secretive, predominantly nocturnal animals, so catching a glimpse of one is always something special. Footage like this reminds us that there is so much more happening in the bush than we ever get to see, even when spending hours in the bush on foot!

As part of our commitment to making full use of every animal harvested during a hunt, we maintain designated feeding sites where bones and internal organs are made available to scavengers. These sites provide a valuable food source for wildlife such as the brown hyena, ensuring that nothing goes to waste and that the natural cycle continues.

Wild, unpredictable, and wonderfully untamed - this is what makes Africa so special.

Two siblings. Two zebra. Two very different African hunting experiences. Two very proud parents (and a PH)!

Blake and Brady, hunting together in the Eastern Cape with a little bit of sibling rivalry thrown in for good measure! 😉

But they weren’t after the same zebra…

Brady set out after a Burchell's Zebra, while Blake was on the hunt for a Cape Mountain Zebra.

At first glance, they may look very similar (no, we aren't talking about the humans!) but spend a little time looking at them and the differences start to become really interesting.

The Cape Mountain Zebra is the smaller and more compact of the two, with a stockier build and beautifully bold, closely spaced stripes, and a distinctive white belly. They are perfectly suited to the rugged mountain country they call home.

The Burchell’s, on the other hand, is a plains zebra and is generally larger with longer legs and a more open striping pattern. Look closely and you may even spot the faint brown “shadow stripes” between the black ones — one of the features that makes them so fascinating.

An iconic hunt for the Brown family, and we have a feeling these two will be talking about who had the better zebra for a very long time!

There’s a feeling that comes with Africa that is difficult to put into words.

It’s the anticipation of stepping into the veld before sunrise, the sound of the bush waking around you, the vastness of the landscape and the knowledge that every turn in the trail could bring a new adventure.

It’s the thrill of pursuing unfamiliar game, the challenge of the stalk, the laughter shared around the fire and the friendships formed along the way.

But more than anything, it’s the feeling of being somewhere truly different. Somewhere wild, beautiful and unforgettable.

Africa has a way of slowing time down, reconnecting us with nature and reminding us why we love the outdoors in the first place.

For many hunters, an African safari is a lifelong dream. For those who have experienced it, it often becomes something more - a place they long to return to, again and again.

Our Huntress Blake!

We love watching a young lady step into the veld with confidence, curiosity and a sense of adventure. Learning to read the tracks, move quietly through the bush, understand the animals and appreciate the land teaches lessons that go far beyond the hunt.

For us, family hunting is about time together. It’s about fathers and daughters, mothers and sons, grandparents and grandchildren sharing experiences that become stories for years to come. It's why we created our Legacy offering....

And perhaps most importantly, it’s about giving the next generation an opportunity to experience wild places, develop a respect for wildlife and become confident, capable stewards of the outdoors.

The smiles, the excitement and the pride on a young huntress’s face are some of our favourite moments in the veld.

Because these aren't simply hunting memories.

They're family memories - and hopefully the beginning of a lifelong love of the African bush.

Some of the best memories aren't made at the end of the hunt, but on the way there.

The Brown family made every single day one for the books.

There is excitement about what lies ahead, but also something wonderfully simple about being together in a place like this.

A hunting safari is so much more than the moment of the hunt. It is the early mornings, the long walks, the stories, the laughter, the wildlife and the extraordinary privilege of experiencing wild Africa together.

These are the moments that stay with you long after you leave.

Happy Birthday to the man with the big hat! The one who keeps us on our toes and keeps the wheels turning. We wouldn't be who we are without your infectious energy, cheeky grin and almost superhuman ability to spot animals in the veld.

Watching legacy in motion is something truly special to behold. Heading out on day 2, Jeff and Brady had set their sights on hunting Kudu but that wasn't stopping Blake from getting in on the action. Having not planned on hunting.... the African bug bit and just like that, this huntress had taken her first African animal. Blesbok down!

And then there was no stopping her. A Warthog followed soon after along with a Kudu for both Jeff and Brady.

There are great days in the bush, and then there are exceptional days and ones that truly just stick in your memory. This day was exactly that. Experiencing a family hunting together is something truly magical - encouragement, banter, memories, excitement and elation all shared. No better way to do it

Jeff, Lynn, Blake and Brady, you are incredible people, and this was one incredible day!

Earlier this month, we had the absolute privilege of welcoming the Brown family from Louisiana for their very first African Safari. After two years of planning, we were delighted to welcome Jeff, Lynn, Brady and Blake for what was a truly memorable week as you guys will see.

Wasting no time, we headed out onto the Estate after setting in the ri**es on the range, and in true style, Brady took this absolute beaut of a Nyala as the light started to fade. What a way to start the trip!

One for the books. A Bushbuck trophy is like hunting shadows. One minute they are there and the next.... gone. An opportunity arises, and you take it - ask any seasoned PH and they will tell you!

Brad's Bushbuck was no exception and it is rhe tried definition of team work makes the dream work. Backpacking these rams out of the mountains is no small feat, but one we would happily do again and again for the experience! What a trophy. Congratulations guys!
