One for the books. A Bushbuck trophy is like hunting shadows. One minute they are there and the next.... gone. An opportunity arises, and you take it - ask any seasoned PH and they will tell you!

Brad's Bushbuck was no exception and it is rhe tried definition of team work makes the dream work. Backpacking these rams out of the mountains is no small feat, but one we would happily do again and again for the experience! What a trophy. Congratulations guys!

One of the lesser known species for hunters - the Mountain Reedbuck. A champion of camouflage, thriving in open grassland mountain slopes and taking cover by lying low in the longer grass. Their fawn colouring makes them blend in perfectly.

A fantastic trophy for Jon, and a sunset to match!

Last up was a Waterbuck Bull for Brad. These guys put in the hours to find this guy and all that effort didn't go unrewarded!

It has been an action packed week for Brad and Jon. With trophies in the salt, it was time to seek out some other species and this absolute belter of a Blue Wildebeest was on the cards for Brad, followed by some management cull hunting.

This is a vital part of maintaining strong, healthy herds here on Fort Governor's and ensuring superior genetics for decades to come. It takes time and we are so grateful to our clients for seeing the vision and playing a part in creating a thriving future.

And there's plenty more to come! This was one unforgettable safari. Autumn hunting at its finest

Day 3 - Nyala time. These shy bush-dwelling antelope love hanging out in the thickets and the steep slopes on the Spitzkop area of the Estate.

The crew packed a lunch to take out into the veld to give them ample time to look for a Nyala for both Brad and Jon. Heading over the ridge, the first Nyala was spotted. Brad set up on the sticks and with a great shot, his Nyala was down.

Just to the right of where Brad shot, there was another Bull standing, not quite mature enough - but as soon as they shot echoed through the valley, another 5 bulls popped out....

Another double-up Nyala day within moments of each other. Is this becoming a trend on Fort Governor’s?

The Grey Ghost! Throughout the day on day 2, we had seen a lot of kudu in the thickets whilst driving on the Estate, but none of them were quite right.

As sunset approached, we saw a nice Kudu in the valley and Jon was getting ready on the sticks when this absolute beaut of a Kudu popped out. We could just see the worn white tips of his horns glinting in the last of the sunlight and it was game on.

Steady on the sticks, it was one shot and he was down. A magnificent Eastern Cape Kudu - congratulations Jon!

And that's not all - as we stood watching the Kudu after the shot, a big old dugga boy Buffalo came out right next to the kudu, standing there for 20 minutes before disappearing off into the bush again. A fantastic end to day 2!

What a day - after lunch, we set out looking for a Waterbuck for Brad, but coming round a corner, we bumped into this Black Impala ram with a herd of ewes.

The wind was in our favour and so taking his time, Brad got into position - waiting for the Ram to turn broadside. He took his shot and the Impala was down. A beautiful old ram with thick bases to his horns. Another fantastic trophy for our friends from Minnesota!

Day 2 is off to a mega start! After stopping at a lookout point, we spotted this Waterbuck bull down in the valley.

Needing to shorten the distance, the team walked down the valley attempting to shorten the gap, when he disappeared. These spekboom thickets are no joke and animals can disappear in an instant.

But they also reappear! Which is exactly what this bull did.

Jon attempted a long shot of 460 yards without luck.

The Waterbuck had moved up the mountain, and the team decided to reposition to where they could see he was standing. As they started their stalk in, they bumped him at 40 yards.

With Jon on the sticks, a well placed shot took the Bull down at 80 yards.
