Located on the farm and well-known historical site, more affectionately known as The Tunnels (also known as the Three Chimneys Farm), Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. The Smokey Moon Backpackers is a communal, self catering setting with most of our rooms set in a dormitory-styled fashion, however we also have private room options available. We generally charge per night but do not hesitate to contact us
for details regarding semi - long term stays.. Check in time is anytime from 11am (provided we were not full the night before therefore possibly requiring a little bit of extra time to ensure all will be sorted for you.) You are welcome to take a tour around the farm or make use of our lovely dam while you wait! We have an epic Permaculture garden and Aquaponics system that delights in fellow visitors! We have a fully equipped communal kitchen as well as a little convenience store located close by equipped with all of the basics and some! We do laundry inexpensively too. One of our main priorities is to provide people with a safe and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere away from the town center but still within good range. We are located about 3km's from High Street, 2,4 km from Pick 'n Pay, and less than 2km's (15/20 min stroll) from Rhodes Campus. Inspired by some of the many moons of Saturn...We are predominately dormitory styled accommodation, as mentioned above, however this is spread throughout 9 rooms with a selection of other accommodating options. Ranging from R150 per person per night (out of season) upward, this pays for your bed as well as full access to all that the backpackers has to offer including the use of our facilities like the communal kitchen where you are most welcome to a cup of coffee and/or tea in the morning. We are always flexible in the bed format of our rooms and open to adjustments to suit your needs provided our circumstances allow for it at the time of your booking! We Offer
Earth: We have a well established organic Aquaponics and Permaculture garden producing some amazing goodies for us! We sometimes have a surplus available for market, speak to John for further info and to arrange a tour! Air: The PERFECT escape for catching a breather. We have so many lovely sights, short walks, animals, and sounds to bless you on your stay with us. Water: There is a lovely little dam merely a stones throw away from backpackers suitable for swimming, fishing (however only catch and release please), and even a short canoe paddle if you have one. For those slightly more adventurous ones, there is a 5 1/2 m cliff to hop off of straight into the dam! Fire: We have a large bonfire style fire pit right by the dam suitable for drum circles and chilly evenings! There is also a wonderful braai area, all you need to do is ask and we can get it going for you! Other: In our communal lounge area we have a small collection of good books that you can sit back and enjoy. In and around the backpackers we offer wireless internet access. We always encourage an integrated environment where our staff, residents, guests, and animals can all get along, however we also fully appreciate your needs! We are Pet Friendly - just give us a heads up!
