The Year Ahead ✨
Building a guesthouse has taught me more in one year than I ever expected.
One of the biggest lessons?
Not everyone will be completely satisfied, and that’s okay. Taste is personal. Preference is subjective. What feels like a 10/10 experience to one guest can, in the very same weekend, feel like a 1/10 to another. That contrast can be humbling, confusing, and at times discouraging.
Hospitality is not an easy industry. It requires emotional intelligence, consistency, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to service. At its core, hosting is about people, and people come with different expectations, standards, and lenses.
What I’ve learned is that the true work lies in staying the course. Staying grounded in the values and mission of the business, even when feedback pulls you in different directions. Listening carefully to guests, not defensively, but strategically, using their voices to refine operations, improve service offerings, and elevate the overall experience, without losing the soul of what you are building.
The greatest challenge isn’t feedback itself. It’s learning how to honestly answer the question: What went wrong? And just as importantly, what went right?
Because when I look back, the numbers tell a powerful story. We ran a good race. We showed up. We served. We started strong, and we’re still standing, still growing, still improving.
The year ahead isn’t about perfection. It’s about refinement. Learning as we go. Building with intention. And continuously improving the product and the experience, one guest, one lesson, one step at a time.
