South Africa’s only free-ranging wild dogs are found in and around Kruger National Park and today we are reminded of their elegance, their loyalty and their dappled beauty.
Life in the wild for these rare hunters carries real threats. Wire snares set for the illegal bushmeat trade can catch any animal that crosses their path.
Every day, the Mdluli Conservation & Anti Poaching team walk the bush in search of these hidden snares and illegal activity supported by specially trained K9 units.
It is quiet, consistent work—but for the wild dogs and other animals protected by every snare removed, it can mean everything.
