On a Sunday morning walk all was clean, green and lush. An amazing blue sky above, just peace and birdsong.

It was good to see the Kudu and Nyala looking so sleek and shiny considering the incredible heat and drought conditions we have experienced.

Take advantage of our low rates and come out for a weekend!

Due to the rain there are some wonderful 'frogging' opportunities at Ekukhuleni at the moment. Seen in the dam last night - Common Caco, Bubbling Kassina, Common River Frog, Banded Rubber Frogs. Guttural toads and Red toads as well. The cacophony was incredible. Of course the frog predators were out in full force as well, with us seeing two Red-lipped Herald snakes hunting on the banks of the dam.

Compliments of the season to all!

Yay! the rain has arrived and given relief to the parched veld.

Thank you! Ekukhuleni
shared a happy and busy Christmas and New Year with many guest bookings

We had academic visitors here for the week, Prof. Krystal Tolley, from the South African National Biodiversity Institute,
Kirstenbosch Research Centre, and her colleagues from Israel, studying chameleons. The team visited farms in the area to search for and collect chameleons without negatively impacting the lives of the chameleons.

This is done by marking the spot where the chameleon is found, and placing the chameleon in a labeled bag with GPS co-ordinates. After photographing them back at Ekukhuleni, each individual chameleon is returned to the marked spot at the GPS co-ordinate where it was collected.

You have to love technology!

We enjoyed the visit immensely as it was both informative and interesting, and we have made more friends.

Good news! We are adding two thatched wooden cabins, which sleep 8 adults each, allowing us to accommodate additional demand from guests. The cabins which will be available by October 2015, are on stilts and feature wooden decks, where you can relax and enjoy the quiet and tranquil atmosphere of the Magaliesburg World Biosphere Reserve.

Good news!

MAGALIESBERG BIOSPHERE RECOGNISED
After nearly a decade of lobbying and sustained efforts by a small committee of dedicated environmentalists, the Magaliesberg has been declared a World Biosphere Reserve.
The announcement was made today (9 June) in Paris by the International Coordinating Council of the Programme on Man and the Biosphere (MAB). This is a Unesco programme that aims to build a supportive and sustainable relationship between people and their environments. In effect, this means a specific focus on safeguarding natural ecosystems through innovative approaches to economic development.

Ekukhuleni is part of the 358 000 Ha biosphere reserve.
