PROVINCIAL LOAD SHEDDING RELIEF GRANT:
DECEMBER 2023 PROGRESS REPORT

Over the past couple of months, Overstrand Municipality kept residents abreast of the progress made with the installation and commissioning of emergency generators at the Mossel River sewerage pump station, Kleinmond Tennis Courts sewerage pump station, Kleinmond water treatment plant, Klipgat spring pumpstation, De Kelders water treatment plant, Pearly Beach water treatment plant, Gansbaai wastewater treatment plant, Palmiet River raw water pumpstation in Kleinmond, the Kraaibosch Dam bulk raw water pumpstation in Gansbaai, the Stanford boreholes, and the Baardskeerdersbos Water Treatment Plant.

Procuring these generators was made possible by the Western Cape Government’s reserve fund for unforeseen and unavoidable events.

The project cost to date is R10 856 058, including VAT, for the ten generators installed to date and includes the Municipality’s contribution from own funding for additional units to ensure that these critical facilities are safeguarded against prolonged load-shedding.

Having been subjected to a whole array of pre-commissioning tests, nine generators are fully operational. One other generator, installed at the boreholes in Stanford, still requires some snags to be resolved, and another generator has been ordered for the Baardskeerdersbos Water Treatment Plant under this project. It is anticipated that the latter will be completed by March 2024.
