Step inside Gateside and you'll see why it's known as a "character" home: timber floors, a classic staircase and Victorian charm throughout the main house.

The story goes that Gateside is the oldest guesthouse in Hilton village. Over twenty-two years it has grown to 9 rooms and units, sleeping 30 guests, with three rooms on the upper floor of the main guesthouse and a mix of cottages and studios around the garden.

Breakfast is flexible: it's an optional extra that you're welcome to book on arrival for any or all days of your stay, served in-house or packed for early starts. Packed lunches are available, and a dinner tray can be delivered to your room if you'd rather not eat out (book 24 hours ahead). Check availability and book directly with us.

Every room at Gateside is individual in décor and size, and many come with a Victorian bath in the en-suite.

Take the rooms upstairs in the main guesthouse. West Room is cosily tucked under the eaves, with a full kitchenette and a spacious en-suite with a shower and Victorian bath. East Room faces the view and has a king bed or twin singles, a kitchenette with microwave, fridge and air fryer, and a bathroom with twin basins and a Victorian bath where you can relax looking out at the view.

Rooms come with Wi-Fi over fibre, electric blankets, a hairdryer, a safe and ironing amenities, plus a smart TV streaming Netflix (or bring your DStv Go). Prepaid air conditioning is available in select units. Check availability and book directly with Gateside.

With its stunning views and Victorian charm, Gateside is definitely a "character" home, and this light-filled covered deck is a good example of why.

The story goes that Gateside is the oldest guesthouse in the village of Hilton. Twenty-two years on, it has grown to 9 rooms and units, all either semi self-catered or fully self-catered, and every unit is individual in décor and size to suit business, leisure and family needs.

Philippa, the owner, and the helpful staff in the office are there to help with your reservation and any requests during your stay. Our loyal staff are a happy team who welcome you with a friendly smile. We encourage you to make yourselves at home within our peaceful and beautiful setting.
