Golden hour with an African Spoonbill 🌅

Easily identified by their broad, spoon-like beaks these birds are native to Southern Africa and found mostly around dams, rivers and other bodies of water. They use their bills to sweep through shallow water and mud, snapping up small fish, frogs and crustaceans 💦

Blesboks are just one of the many antelope species that call our reserve home 🦌

They play an important role in the ecosystem, helping to keep the grasslands healthy while also forming an important part of the food chain.

And while they may be a familiar sight on our reserve, we still get excited every time we spot them!

Zuri showing us she’s the boss 🦛

While hippos are well known for their impressive yawns, they actually use this behaviour as a form of communication. It can be used to signal to other hippos when they feel threatened or as a way of establishing dominance 🌿

Although, this one certainly looks like a she’s enjoying putting on a show 💦
