Wanting to practise your bird photography? 📸 Bonamanzi is a great place to start!

With over 426 bird species recorded on the reserve, there’s plenty to look out for. Keep your eyes on the river, and you might spot a pied kingfisher hovering above the water, ready to dive for its next meal.

Close enough to reception if you need anything, but tucked away in the bush with your own private deck, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and wood-fired hot tub.

Spend the day exploring Bonamanzi, then come back, light the fire and settle in for the evening.

Camping at Bonamanzi comes with a few wild neighbours! 🌙👀

Genets are often spotted after dark, and you might be lucky enough to see one while camping. They're beautiful little creatures, but please remember that they are wild animals. Don't feed them or leave food lying around, and please don't drive around the reserve at night.

Enjoy the sightings, give them space and let them carry on with their nightly adventures. 🌿🐾

This month, we’re recognising Sphesihle from our kitchen team as Bonamanzi’s Employee of the Month. Thank you for the hard work, the heart and everything you bring to the team! 👏

We sat down with him for a few quick questions:

🍲 A guest favourite? "Slow cooked venison potjie."

🧅 A good tip for making a venison potjie? “Slow caramelised onion and garlic as the base, cooked without stirring so the rich flavours build.”

🌿 Favourite part of the job? “Being surrounded by nature and wildlife in the bush.”

Ammonite fossils are found in this part of northern KZN, giving us a glimpse into a time when this landscape looked very different...

If you spot one, you’re looking at a little piece of the area’s prehistoric past.
