Here at Thanda Safari, the spirit of Zulu culture is woven into the story of this land, heard in the rhythm of the drums, felt in the powerful steps of the Zulu warriors, and carried with grace, wisdom and pride by our Zulu mamas.

It lives in the songs passed from one generation to the next. In intricate beadwork where colour tells a story. In dance, tradition, language and the deep sense of belonging that connects people to family, community and place.

For us, Heritage Day is about honouring those who came before, celebrating those who keep these traditions alive today, and ensuring their stories continue to be heard tomorrow.

On World Rhino Day, we stand alongside conservationists, communities and organisations around the world who are working to ensure that this remains possible for generations to come.

At Thanda Safari, we play our part through ongoing monitoring, protection, veterinary support and the commitment of those who dedicate their lives to safeguarding these remarkable animals.

You don’t really understand safari until you’ve lived it.

Waking before sunrise to the sounds of the wild. Heading out into the reserve with no idea what you might find. Coming home to lunch overlooking an endless landscape, an afternoon beside the infinity pool, and a sundowner as the sky turns gold.

Then night falls, the fire is lit, and somewhere in the darkness Africa is still awake.

Villa Thandawena named best in South Africa

On Friday 28 August, at the Africa Gala Dinner held in Zanzibar, Villa Thandawena was named South Africa’s Leading Luxury Safari Villa 2026. Villa Thandawena is the flagship of The Royal Thanda Club Estate, situated in the celebrated Thanda Safari Big Five Private Game Reserve in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
To receive this recognition is an incredible honour, and to be acknowledged alongside some of Africa’s most exceptional safari villas, makes it even more meaningful. It is a reflection of the vision, care and attention to detail that goes into creating an exceptional property and unforgettable experience.
