Meet Abe Nzuza. 🌿

For guests at Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge, a visit to the Mpembeni community is an opportunity to understand a little more about the people, history and conservation story of this part of KwaZulu-Natal.

Led by Isibindi Foundation Project Coordinator Abe Nzuza, our cultural tours include a visit to the Community Conservation Centre, where Abe shares the remarkable story of conservation in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, including the legacy of Operation Rhino.

It’s a chance to step beyond the safari vehicle, spend time in the neighbouring community and hear these stories from someone who has spent decades working in conservation and alongside the communities that surround the reserve.

Not every great safari sighting has to be one of the Big Five. 🌿

With his sweeping, lyre-shaped horns and unmistakable markings, a male impala is pretty impressive in his own right.

Often seen across Hluhluwe-iMfolozi, impala may be one of the more familiar faces on safari, but every now and then one stops long enough to remind you just how beautiful they are.

The boys after a morning at the spa. 🐃🫧

Meet the “dagga boys”: older buffalo bulls often found away from the main breeding herd, with a particular fondness for a good wallow in the mud.

The name comes from ‘udaka’, the isiZulu word for mud, and looking at these three, it’s not hard to see how the nickname stuck.
