White rhinos use dung middens as their own version of a communication board. 🦏
A midden is a communal pile of dung where rhinos repeatedly defecate. They use their scent and dung to leave chemical messages about identity, s*x and reproductive status, helping them recognise who has been in the area.
Territorial males also scrape and scatter their dung with their hind feet, spreading the scent over a wider area. They may then urinate and spray scent while walking, reinforcing their territorial boundaries. 📹 Victor Motseleng
