There are few sights in the African bush quite as exhilarating as a pack of African wild dogs on the move.

Also known as painted wolves or Cape hunting dogs, these remarkable predators are instantly recognisable by their oversized ears and beautifully mottled coats, with no two animals wearing quite the same pattern.

Today, on World African Wild Dog Day, we celebrate these extraordinary animals, whatever name you know them by, and the protected wilderness areas they need in order to roam, hunt and thrive.

In the Klaserie, sharing space with wildlife like this is a privilege we never take for granted.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Bernard Malatjie “Bernie”.

Bernard was an integral part of the Tulela Safari Lodge family. In his role as a butler, he brought warmth, kindness and genuine care to everything he did, leaving a lasting impression on the many guests who had the privilege of knowing him.

More than a valued member of our team, Bernie was a cherished part of our Tulela family and was deeply loved and respected within the wider community. His warmth and presence touched so many lives.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Bernard’s family, friends and all those who knew and loved him during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, dear Bernie. 🤍

One of Africa’s most impressive reptiles…

The Snouted Cobra can grow to over 2.5 metres in length and is active both during the day and at night. While highly venomous, it’s generally not aggressive and will usually only defend itself if threatened.
