Stop and smell the spring flowers because, before you know it, they’ll be gone…

For a few precious weeks each year the Cape is a wonderland of wildflowers. Our fields and farms, wetlands and dunes are chequered with a short-lived riot of magnificent color and delicious-smelling blooms from mid-August until end-September.

The Postberg section in the West Coast National Park is open from the 01st August to 30th September for the Annual Flower Season. Gate hours to enter the Park are from 07H00 to 18H30. The flowers will be starting to bloom soon and should be a beautiful sight to see in the next 2 - 6 weeks.

Yesterday was a poster day for Hopefield. Wildflowers everywhere and beautiful blue skies. The wildflowers at the fynbos park is beautiful and Hopefield Fynbos show is just around the corner. Do come visit 💖🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼💖

They're here!! They're here!! Every year I am amazed at the wonder of the fields just exploding with flowers. Make sure to check your weather apps before you make plans as some of these beauties only opens when the temperature is right.

The study, which used an MRI scanner to monitor brain activity, adds to a growing body of evidence that natural environments are good for humans, affecting mental and physical health and even levels of aggression. If this is not a good reason to book a place here to get away from the city for the weekend ... or longer 😁.. I don't know what is. Oh, yes .. the flowers are beginning to bloom in the fields. The West Coast is well known for its spectacular sunsets. Sometimes the sun sets in all the colours of the Hallelujah chorus and sometimes it quietly whispers 'good night.'

These lovelies were all over the sandy areas a few weeks ago "Brunsvigia bosmaniae" if you, like my mom, speaks Latin when in the garden :) Know amongst others as "kandelaar blomme" or candelabra flowers, they produce a dazzling floral display during autumn when little else is flowering in the veld. More or less 21 days after the first winter rains, normally around Easter weekend, it makes a spectacular appearance with its brilliant, rounded, candelabra-like, pink flower heads. Whenever I see them I know that winter is coming :) and around here it's a good thing. Because in winter the sandy fields become green with the promise of harvests and soon .. soon, the fields will be covered in wildflowers
