Vandaag begon onze dag al goed: om 9:00 uur werden we opgehaald door Glenn. Onze excursie was een dagje verschoven vanwege de flinke regen van gisteren, maar gelukkig zag het weer er vandaag een stuk beter uit – al merkten we af en toe nog wel iets van de nasleep.

Met Glenn als chauffeur en gids reden we de hele Kaap Peninsula rond. Wat een fijne man! Hij reed rustig, gaf ons alle vrijheid om zelf te bepalen waar we wilden stoppen en hoe lang we ergens bleven, en ondertussen kregen we ook nog eens een mini-geschiedenisles. Ongelooflijk hoeveel hij wist, en vooral hoe enthousiast en boeiend hij kon vertellen.

Onze route begon richting Hout Bay en al snel reden we over de prachtige Chapman’s Peak Drive. Wat een uitzichten! Daarna gingen we verder richting Noordhoek, waar we een lunchstop maakten. Natuurlijk konden we het niet laten om lokale specialiteiten te proeven: heerlijke klipfish met friet.

Daarna ging de tocht verder naar Boulders Beach, waar we voor het eerst de beroemde pinguïns van dichtbij zagen. Extra bijzonder was dat we op een plek kwamen waar helemaal niemand anders was. Via een soort sluip-door-kruip-door route tussen de rotsen door moesten we zelfs een paar golven trotseren om ze te ontdekken. We waren uiteindelijk kletsnat, maar dat maakte het avontuur alleen maar leuker – het voelde echt alsof we ze zelf “gevonden” hadden!

Vervolgens bezochten we de Kaap de Goede Hoop en eindigden we bij Cape Point, waar het uitzicht echt spectaculair was.

Alsof dat nog niet genoeg was, hebben we vandaag ook al allerlei dieren gezien: pinguïns, elanden, bavianen en zelfs struisvogels. Best bijzonder als je bedenkt dat we pas drie dagen in Zuid-Afrika zijn!

Na afloop sloten we de dag gezellig af in een plaatselijke pizzeria in Hout Bay, waar we samen met Glenn nog een pizza aten. Een perfecte afsluiting van een prachtige, veelzijdige dag.
