We were fortunate to spot a Secretary bird today.

These magnificent birds are becoming increasingly rare, making every sighting a special reminder of the incredible wildlife we share our farm with.

In winter Animals often follow firebreaks.
They often find themselves stuck between the road and a fence, then panic when cars pass by; Often running into the road or damaging themselves on the fence.

Please be vigilant of the road verges in the evenings and early morning as the animals can appear out of nowhere.

Common Reedbuck, Bushbuck, Common Duiker and Eland in the western section of the Lions River Conservation district, are the common roadblocks. Predators such as mongoose, Caracal, Serval and Jackal also fall victim to vehicles. Owls also make up a large part of roadkill statistics.

Please report any wildlife roadkill via whatsapp to: Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Lions River Honorary Officers

Caring for nature means understanding its rhythms.🔥🔥🔥

Winter burns are an important part of caring for our grasslands - clearing old red grass, encouraging fresh growth and creating a healthier, more diverse habitat for the life that calls it home.

They also create essential firebreaks, helping protect our plantations, indigenous trees, wildlife and our neighbouring farms from runaway fires.

It may look dramatic for a moment, but beneath the smoke is something beautiful: new life, healthy grass and a landscape being carefully looked after for seasons to come. 🌱
