The Northern Cape is South Africa’s largest province by land area, yet it has the smallest population, writes Miriam Kimvangu.

This combination creates a landscape defined by low density settlement, long travel distances and a strong sense of geographic isolation.

Understanding the Northern Cape requires some context. Much of the province falls within arid or semi arid zones, including the Nama Karoo and Succulent Karoo biomes. "Incredible getaway in a breathtaking and magnificent tranquil setting. Bezalel wine and brandy farm has an authentic rustic farm vineyard feel, excellently laid out and equipped with all the creature comforts. The host Maxè and her staff were very friendly, considerate and thoughtful in making your stay in the green Kalahari memorable! The farm house has something for everyone to do and enjoy whether you are busy bodies like us or just want to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful nature. There are many activities like walking, MTB, wine and brandy tasting, gourmet food, and luxury shopping. The property has a large covered braai area outside on the front porch with plenty of seating and shelter for both winter and summer braai/bbq's, and that guests can enjoy their morning coffee, sandwiches or evening sundowners from. In the evening you are mesmerized by the nearby pond and golden sun sprinkled sunsets on the vineyards. We will definitely recommend Bezalel as a must visit for anyone who loves the outdoors or who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Can't wait to visit again very soon! Thank you for your incredible hospitality and for making our stay magical!"

We arrived at the guesthouse in the late afternoon on a Saturday, and immediately decided that we'd have to come back to spend more time there. The quaint house has a fully equipped self-cater kitchen, or a braai area There's a little river that you can swim in while you wait for the wood braai to get to the right heat and flame level. The owner Martiens who is extremely friendly told us that they have been here for four generations, minding the vineyard.

Unfortunately, we arrived too late in the day to enjoy the food, wine or brandy from the bistro on the premise but I'm told that is one of the things they are famous for, so I'm looking forward to eating there at our next stay.

Everything was clean and fresh and if you are into photography, you will go wild at sunset. I highly recommend staying at this wonderful guesthouse.
