👻 THE KIMBERLEY GHOST TRAIL
A city with a very spooky side...
Most people know Kimberley as the City of Diamonds. 💎
But Kimberley has another side...
👻 A city of ghost stories, unexplained happenings and legends passed down through generations.
For years, Kimberley's historic Ghost Trail took visitors through some of the city's oldest and most atmospheric buildings and sites.
The traditional route began at the Honoured Dead Memorial, before continuing to places including the Africana Library, Rudd House, the Kimberley Club, the old De Beers Boardroom and the McGregor Museum.
And the stories?
They're wonderfully creepy. 😳
👻 At Rudd House, visitors have reported stories of a woman in white, unexplained sounds and other strange occurrences.
👻 At the Africana Library, there are tales of footsteps, books falling from shelves and the restless spirit of an early librarian.
👻 At the McGregor Museum, stories tell of a woman in white and a former phantom nun.
👻 And at Magersfontein, there are long-standing stories of a phantom Scottish piper and mysterious lights appearing across the battlefield at night.
Are they ghosts?
That's something you'll have to decide for yourself. 😉
What we do know is that these stories have become part of Kimberley's fascinating heritage and folklore.
👻 CAN YOU DO THE GHOST TRAIL YOURSELF?
Not quite.
The old Ghost Trail was associated with guided tours, and some of the buildings are museums, businesses or heritage properties where access must be arranged beforehand.
For example, Rudd House is visited by appointment, rather than simply walking in.
So please don't go knocking on doors at midnight looking for Percy Rudd. 😂👻
But if you're visiting Kimberley and want to explore its spooky side, there are opportunities to experience some of these stories with organised tours and special events.
And this October, a guided Ghost Tour at Magersfontein Battlefield Museum is scheduled for 31 October 2026, starting at 19:30. 👻🌙
