Over the past few days, the beautiful Garden Route has faced the devastating impact of a powerful Level 8 storm, with Knysna being one of the areas most severely affected. Like so many homes and businesses in our community, Kanonkop House experienced damage from the heavy winds and relentless rain, leaving parts of our property in need of restoration, repair and love!

While the past few days have certainly been emotional and challenging, they have also reminded us of something truly special, the incredible strength, heart, and resilience of our Kanonkop family and the wider Knysna community.

From the very first moment after the storm hit, it was all hands on deck. Our amazing team came together without hesitation, working tirelessly through difficult conditions to begin clearing fallen trees, restoring damaged areas, and bringing our beautiful home back to life. Watching everyone step up with such care, determination, and pride has been deeply moving. Kanonkop House is far more than just a guest house, it is a home filled with people who genuinely care for one another and for every guest who walks through our doors.

We would also like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the outstanding service providers, contractors, and specialists who responded so quickly and professionally when we needed expert assistance. Your willingness to help, often at short notice and under difficult circumstances, has made an enormous difference to us. The dedication and workmanship shown throughout this process have been absolutely incredible, and we are truly thankful for every single person who has played a role in helping us restore what the storm damaged.

We are proud to say that restoration has gone successfully, with a few minor repairs to complete. Through all of this, one thing has become even clearer to us, storms may damage buildings and landscapes, but they also reveal the strength of the people behind them.

To our guests, friends, partners, neighbors, and everyone who has reached out with messages of support, kindness, and concern, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your encouragement has carried us through these past few days more than you know.

The spirit of Knysna and the Garden Route remains as strong and beautiful as ever, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Kanonkop House!

Football fever has officially taken over at Kanonkop House! ⚽

Today is no ordinary day… it’s a house-divided kind of day as our very own amazing Gibby proudly stands behind his beloved Chelsea F.C., while Mark is firmly backing Leeds United F.C. in today’s FA Cup semi-final showdown!

The banter has been absolutely relentless, and rumours are flying that Mark may have jokingly suggested that if Chelsea pulls off the win… Gibby might be looking for a new job on Monday!

We’d just like to officially state for the record that Gibby’s position at Kanonkop House is secure… although we may need to monitor his celebrations depending on the final score!

Whether it’s Chelsea blue or Leeds white, one thing is certain, the laughs, the chirps, and the friendly rivalry have made today’s match even more entertaining.

So, who are you backing? Team Gibby or Team Mark?

May the best team win… and may Gibby keep his job!

What a memorable few days it has been hosting our wonderful guests on a private Garden Route adventure!

Our journey began with a scenic private transfer from Lekkerwater, winding along the beautiful coastal landscapes of the Garden Route. We made a relaxed stop for lunch at the charming Jakkalsvlei Wine Estate, where great wine, delicious food, and countryside views set the perfect tone for the days ahead. From there we continued to Kanonkop House, where our guests checked in and settled into the magic of Knysna before enjoying our famous Forest Boma evening under the stars, a truly special way to begin their stay.

Day two was all about exploring the beauty of Knysna and its surrounds. We visited the iconic Knysna Heads, where the lagoon meets the Indian Ocean, took in the breathtaking coastal views at Brenton-on-Sea, and enjoyed the peaceful charm of Buffels Bay. It was a day filled with dramatic scenery, fresh sea air, and plenty of unforgettable moments.

Our third day took us to beautiful Plettenberg Bay for an adventure-packed outing. The morning started with a spectacular hike along Robberg Nature Reserve, one of the most scenic coastal trails in South Africa. From there, the excitement continued with a once-in-a-lifetime swim alongside the playful Cape Fur Seals. After all that adventure, we slowed things down with a wonderful lunch at The Plettenberg, followed by a return to Knysna where the day ended perfectly with a round of golf at the renowned Simola Golf Course.

Departure day didn’t slow down the adventure! We set off from Kanonkop House towards Oudtshoorn to explore the magnificent Cango Caves and visit one of the region’s famous ostrich farms. From there we travelled along the legendary Route 62, winding through the rugged beauty of the Klein Karoo, before arriving in the culinary capital of the Cape – Franschhoek.

Four incredible days, countless memories, breathtaking landscapes, and the privilege of sharing the beauty of our region with wonderful guests. This is what we love most about creating private guided experiences.

What a day in Knysna!

From the wildly creative Anything That Floats Festival at Leisure Island to the quack-tastic Duck Race at the Knysna Waterfront, our town showed up and showed off in true Knysna style!

Floating contraptions that mostly floated, ducks racing like Olympic champions, crowds cheering, laughing, and soaking up the magic, all surrounded by one of the most spectacular natural playgrounds in the world. Mountains, lagoon, sunshine and smiles… honestly, we’re spoiled!

Knysna isn’t just a destination, it’s a feeling. A town that embraces visitors like old friends, celebrates creativity, and knows how to have a seriously good time. If today didn’t make you fall in love with this place, we’re not sure what will!

Here’s to community, fun, floating dreams and a town that always welcomes you with open arms. Come float, race, laugh and make memories with us!

A Christmas Eve to Remember at Kanonkop House

This Christmas Eve, Kanonkop House was filled with warmth, laughter, and the magic of true festive celebration!

Together with our wonderful guests, we enjoyed an unforgettable evening hosted by our owners, Mark and Adele, alongside the incredible Kanonkop House team.

The night began with welcoming festive cocktails, setting the tone for an extraordinary culinary journey, an 8-course Christmas Eve dinner, beautifully crafted, exquisitely plated, and simply unforgettable.

Each course told a story of flavour, passion, and celebration, perfectly paired with elegant entertainment and heartfelt hospitality.

More than just a dinner, it was a moment and a gathering of people, connection, and joy. A true welcome to Kanonkop House, where Christmas is not just celebrated, but felt.
