There are more than 500 different bird species in and the Korhaan is just one! This interesting bird is not often seen, but when it is, it makes an impression and our guide, Doylance, thought you might enjoy the sighting too :-)

Korhaan males are known for their dazzling 'Su***de' mating ritual, in which they literally fall from the sky, and save themselves at the very last minute 😂. Sadly, they show a lot less effort after mating and Korhaan chick survival can largely be attributed to the amazing Korhaan single moms, who are responsible for everything including nest building...

In the history of , there have been 7 elephants with extraordinary tusks - they are known as tuskers - and specifically, The Magnificent Seven. Their stories and tusks have been lovingly documented and memorialised in a stunning display in 's Elephant Museum in Letaba Camp. These legends were known and loved by those who tracked them and cared for them and the territories they lived in.

Now, there is a new generation of tuskers in emerging in parts of The Kruger and guide, Doylance, had the joy and privilege of seeing one during a recent with our guests! Seeing this magnificent elephant was a very special experience❤ .

Doylance shared this little clip of some very calm and patient young hyenas, waiting for their moms to come home, at their den. Baby hyenas are left at 'home' while the adults go out to hunt, until they are old enough to join in.

So, if you are lucky enough to spend time with young hyenas waiting at home for their older family members to return, then you'll notice that they are always calm and masters of patience, while still being interested in the world around them. It's very special to spend time in their company this way :-).

Crocodiles inspire both awe and healthy fear in those who are privileged to see them living freely in their wild habitat. Suffice to say, they are impressive!

Our guide, Doylance, shared this recent sighting during a in . As you can see, this croc was relaxing in the sunshine on the riverbank and was apparently smiling😆. Big crocodile 'smiles' are in fact their way of temperature regulation. You see, they are ectothermic, meaning that they are cold -blooded and cannot warm their bodies from their internal processes. They rely on their external environment to warm/ cool them. Keeping their mouths wide open is an important part of the process for them and can be to warm or cool them, depending on the conditions.

Southern Ground Hornbills are the largest Hornbills on earth, at a height of up to 1.3 m! They are impressive and our guests on a recent in had the pleasure of seeing them in the wild, with our guide, Doylance.

Adults have bright red wattles and these are not just for show - they are also built-in amplifiers to help carry their deep calls for up to 2 kms away! They breed slowly and their young only mature at about 4-6 years of age, when they also get their red colours. The alpha pair will breed and the whole family will collectively raise one chick at a time. Their lifespan in the wild is up to 50 years.

Sadly, Southern Ground Hornbills have been endangered in recent years, making sightings even more special.

are known and loved for their amazing community values. So contrary to the normal 'survival of the fittest' way of most predators, they adapt to what is best for all members of the pack - including the young, sick and old. They do everything together and it's always beautiful to see. Homo Sapiens as a species could probably learn a lot from them!-)

guide, Doylance, recorded this delightful sighting of a pack of Wild Dogs with their pups. Usually, only the Alpha pair mate and reproduce, and the rest of the family collectively care for, and raise the young.
