Lions are highly social animals and hunting and feasting are family occasions too. Sometimes, meal times can be stressful and there is a definite pecking order that is followed during eating to maintain a semblance of order.

So, it was a special sighting when our guests had the opportunity to spend time watching a very calm lion feast where lions were sharing without argument.

The Slender Mongoose is small but mighty! As you can see from this lovely sighting shared by Max, they are fast! Weighing just over 500g, the slender mongoose is very different from other mongoose species in several ways.
For instance, they are solitary and usually only meet up to mate. Fearless hunters, they are also masters of fluid movement, and it is believed that the distinctive black tip on their long tails, is an effective decoy when they are being hunted.

Louis shared this special sighting, of a local pack drinking from a waterhole in . Did you know that wild dogs don't have to drink water every day? They are able to go several days without drinking water if they have to, as they derive their water requirements from their food.

However, in summer (like our recent 38 degrees C temps!-)), their water demands are significantly higher. Our guests on this really were blessed with an awesome bucket-list-worthy sighting!-)

Although the subject of this sighting looks decidedly calm and sleepy, Buffalos are extremely aggressive and dangerous (hence their inclusion in the ). Older males usually leave the herd and either live a solitary life, or form bachelor herds. These old buffaloes are colloquially known as ''Daka Boys'' (often incorrectly written as ''dagga'' boys). The term is derived from the isiZulu name for mud, because these boys love to lie in the mud and are frequently covered in it :-).

Meet the Hamerkop - aptly named for its hammer-shaped head :-). guide, Max shared this sighting from a recent in and although this bird may look nondescript, it has a very colorful personality!

For instance: Hamerkops are the building tycoons of the wild! They love to build nests - even nests they don't even need😂. And don't be mistaken into thinking their building projects are small - oh no, they build BIG! Their nests consist of up to 8000 (yes!) sticks and can span a height and width of 2 ms. If you have visited Sunset Dam on one of our magical , then you have no doubt seen them!
