Situated only 3 hours drive from DBN and 4 hours from JHB, Nambiti Plains is the ideal place for a private and romantic getaway. The Nambiti Plains game Lodge is home to the Big Five and Cheetah as well as some awesome plains game and abundant bird life. The lodge has seven private luxury rooms and ample space in each room allows for all the special touches such as his/hers basins, a private deck, indoor and outdoor showers etc. Five star rated meal times are a culinary dream with 3 course meals and plated service at an all time high. The lodge also does special boma dinners and bush breakfast with the beautiful Sundays River in the background. Truly an absolute place of leisure, relaxation and game viewing that is tough to match.

Not every memorable sighting needs to be one of the Big Five.

Sometimes it’s a flash of colour on a nearby branch, a call you’ve never heard before, or a few quiet minutes watching the smaller residents of the reserve. From a Little Bee-eater perched among the branches to an African Fish Eagle surveying the landscape, there is always something worth looking up for.

For birders, these quieter sightings can be every bit as rewarding as the big ones 🦅

You know the saying… if you didn’t get a photo, did it even happen? 😂📸

Well, Cait has photographic evidence to prove it!

While out on safari recently, she came across a few Southern Ground Hornbills. These are a special sighting on Nambiti, and one we may be lucky enough to see only once a year!

Even the buffalo in the background couldn’t help but stop and stare! 👀🐃

Now that’s a sighting worth celebrating. ❤️

“GLORIOUS STAY - We were a family of 5 adults experiencing both South Africa and safari for the first time and what a place to experience it.
The staff made us feel so welcome from the moment we met in the car park for the transfer to the main lodge and this welcome continued throughout our stay.
5 stars doesn’t really do it justice. The rooms were glorious, each with their own unique views all within easy walking distance of the main lodge which in itself was lovely. All the food was fantastic and accommodating dairy intolerance was no issue at all. Big shout out to Cait our driver/spotter/guide and her encyclopedia's knowledge and by the end of our 5 days she was almost family, but also need to praise all the staff for making our stay wonderful.

But of course the main reason for being is the wildlife and were we in for a treat. Every drive (two a day and one on check in/check out days) saw us experience different areas of the reserve each with their own unique wildlife and with Cait’s knowledge we saw (almost) everything we wanted and it wasn’t from lack of trying that we didn’t see a leopard.
Could add hundreds more photos but wouldn’t want to spoil the experience for others.

𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍🐘🌿

We recently had the privilege of witnessing a collar removal of a female elephant here on the reserve.

Her collar had stopped working and, with the necessary research completed, the decision was made that it was no longer needed.

It was incredible watching the reserve team and vet at work, putting the elephant’s wellbeing first at all times — we simply had the privilege of being there to witness the process.

Conservation happens in many different ways, and being able to see this firsthand is something we will never take for granted.

Cait recently completed some trails training through Ingwenya Training Wessels — an important part of continuing to develop her skills.

Walking safari's is something we regularly offer at Nambiti Plains, so having guides who aren’t simply trained, but trained to the highest standards, is incredibly important to us.

A huge thank you to Phillip, for his dedication to the training and development of our guides.

And well done to Cait for being so committed to furthering herself — not only for her own development, but ultimately for the experience and safety of our guests.

They say an image can speak a thousand words.

But how do you photograph the feeling of sitting on your deck after dark, listening to the bush around you?

Or that first coffee before a game drive, the bath you don’t want to get out of, or dinner after a day spent exploring Nambiti with your guide?

Some parts of a stay at Nambiti Plains just have to be experienced.
And perhaps that’s the point.
