If you love swimming and are visiting Langebaan: Please note the swimming conditions in our beautiful Lagoon.
We have cold water, strong tidal movement, unpredictable seal activity and no access to Schaapen Island. *Guests should stay close to shore, not attempt crossing the current without support, be visible with a bright cap or float and aware of boat traffic.*
Yesterday around 16h45 a lone gentleman entered the water, swimming slowly towards the island. The incoming current took hold of him and he managed to get out at the army pier after 45 minutes. He was hardly visible from the shore. Fortunately the tide was incoming, the water was warm and there was no activity on the water. He is a visitor and just wanted to do a sunset swim to the island on a beautiful afternoon in our amazing lagoon.
