lekker (adj., adv., South African slang)

Pronunciation: /ˈlɛkə/

Meaning:

1. Pleasant to the senses.
Something that tastes good, feels good, or is generally enjoyable.
Example: “That braai was lekker.”

2. Enjoyable; fun; satisfying.
Used to describe an experience that feels good or easy to enjoy.
Example: “We had a lekker weekend.”

3. Expression of approval or contentment.
A quick way to say something is good, nice, or just right.
Example: “That’s lekker!”

4. (Informal, South African) A multi-purpose life word.
Can be used as an answer, a mood, a reaction, or a polite filler when you don’t quite know what else to say.
Example:
– “How are you?”
– “Lekker.”

Note:
“Lekker” is one of those rare words that can mean almost anything positive, depending on tone, timing, and facial expression. When in doubt, assume it’s a compliment… and you’re doing just fine.
