Enjoy Scenic mountain view Hiking Trails - or 1-3hr Horse Trails Paardeplaats Nature Retreat offers self-catering or catered accommodation on
request in the mountains on the Longtom Pass, Mpumalanga, only 12km from
Lydenburg. The farm is off the Eskom grid ( NO load-shedding! ) with a sophisticated solar
system and is ideal for anyone wanting to disconnect from the stress and busyness
of their day
-to-day life. The well-equipped kitchen is where self-catering guests can
have fun cooking on an old fashioned Union 7 wood stove, or a gas cooker and/or
under a roof, in the open, braai hearth. The flora and fauna surrounding Paardeplaats is a big attraction to nature lovers. We
are only an hour’s drive from Kruger National Park’s Pabeni gate! Attractions include
historical stone buildings, dating back to the 1860s gold mining era, situated at a
mountain stream with beautiful views of the valley. Paardeplaats is also home to a heard of wild horses who roam the planes and
sometimes visit our guests. We have a variety of indigenous plants including proteas,
fynbos and rare field orchids. Small game that can be found on Paardeplaats include grey and red reedbuck, klipspringer, civet and duiker with the odd visiting eland, warthog and bushpig to add to the nature experience. For those with an interest in a culinary experience, owner Brian, a retired land
surveyor with a passion for food, could add a Saucy Chef flavour to your stay. As
owner of Die Tonteldoos Bistro, Dullstroom’s first official restaurant, he was awarded
as one of MNet’s top ten country eateries and received a blaizon and platter from the
international gourmet society, the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. His motivation and
aim is honest, unpretentious food and the importance of ambience around
the table. Since his retirement to elegant simplicity at Paardeplaats Nature
Retreat, he has become a master at wood stove and outdoor cooking, with
flair. For those wanting to wander the landscape of Paardeplaats, Gerda is a
freelance journalist with a passion for people and their stories, and is
available to accompany guests on any of the multiple hiking trails on the
farm. To make a booking please contact us on 083 645 8313 or send us a message directly.
