With only roughly 300 to 400 individuals left in South Africa, every successful breeding pair at VREDERUS contributes significantly to the survival of the species. The group’s interest helps highlight the importance of protecting these specific highland wetlands.

"High Altitude, High Reward"

There is a specific kind of silence you only find at Vrederus on a January morning. That silence was broken today by the scream of a reel and a battle with a New Year’s trophy. A spectacular trout to start the 2026 chapter. Congratulations to Nicolas on a masterclass in fly fishing...safely released to tease someone else another day.
That is the mark of a true angler! It is very satisfying watching a trout dart back into the depths, knowing you fooled it once and might get the chance to do it again when it's even bigger.
