Safari teamwork at its finest.

Red-billed Oxpeckers are often seen hitching a ride on some of Madikwe's larger residents, searching through their coats for ticks and other small food items.

Whether perched on buffalo, giraffe, rhino or antelope, these busy little birds are a wonderful reminder of just how interconnected life in the bush can be.

Sometimes the best wildlife stories involve more than one species. 🐦🦒

Meet one of the giants of the bird world.

The impressive Kori Bustard is a bird of Madikwe's open plains, striding slowly through the grasslands with an unmistakably regal presence.

As one of Africa's heaviest flying birds, seeing one take to the air makes an already impressive sighting even more memorable.

Keep your eyes on the open plains — you never know who may be walking through the grass.

A flash of scarlet among the thornveld. ❤️🖤

The striking Crimson-breasted Shrike is difficult to overlook, with its dramatic black plumage contrasted by a brilliant crimson breast.

Madikwe is one of the wonderful places where guests can encounter this colourful bushveld resident — and if you're very fortunate, you may even encounter the unusual yellow colour morph.

Nature always keeps a surprise or two hidden among the branches.

With its oversized yellow bill, curious expression and unmistakable character, the Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill is one of the bushveld's most charismatic residents.

Often spotted hopping along the ground in search of insects and other tasty morsels, these feathered personalities prove that a safari isn't only about the Big Five. Sometimes the smaller sightings steal the show. 🐦🌿

Tail up, it's time to go! 😂 Warthogs never fail to bring a little personality to a game drive. Whether they're kneeling down while feeding, trotting confidently through the bush or disappearing into the distance with that unmistakable upright tail, these quirky Madikwe residents are always fun to watch. Not every great safari sighting has to be a predator.

The spiralled horns of a mature kudu bull are one of the bushveld's most impressive sights. Often standing quietly amongst the vegetation, kudu have an incredible ability to almost disappear into their surroundings despite their size. Then suddenly you spot those enormous ears…those beautiful markings…and those magnificent horns. Another reminder to never stop scanning the bush.

Black with white stripes…or white with black stripes? 😉 Whatever side of the debate you're on, one thing is certain, zebra are some of the most photogenic residents of the African bush. A herd wandering across the Madikwe landscape creates one of those timeless safari scenes that simply never gets old. Sometimes Africa's most familiar animals are still among its most beautiful.

A pair of eyes, two little ears…and a whole lot of hippo beneath the surface!

Watching hippos wallowing in the water can look wonderfully peaceful, but these impressive animals are far more powerful than their relaxed appearance might suggest.

Whether they're submerged with just their faces showing or emerging onto land, hippos always make for an entertaining sighting in Madikwe.

Who else could spend hours watching them?

Elegant. Powerful. Unmistakable. The Sable Antelope is surely one of Africa's most striking animals. Those magnificent sweeping horns and bold facial markings give it an appearance that is almost regal. Among Madikwe's many wildlife treasures, a beautiful Sable standing against the African bush is certainly worth stopping for. Nature really does have an eye for design.
