Over the next few weeks, the Kruger landscape will begin to change as impala ewes give birth and a new generation takes its first steps into the world.
Impala lambs are incredibly small when they are born, and for the first few days they spend much of their time hidden in the grass, carefully watched over by their mothers. Before long, they begin venturing out, joining the herd and learning to navigate the world around them.
For anyone visiting Kruger during this time of year, seeing these tiny new arrivals is one of the most special parts of being in the park.

Watching a wobbly little lamb follow its mother, surrounded by the rest of the herd, is a wonderful reminder of the constant cycle of life happening all around us.

The next month is a beautiful time to be out exploring the park. Keep your eyes on the grass, because you never know when you might spot one.

As the sun begins to set, the viewing deck at River House becomes the perfect place to pause and take in the Crocodile River and the beautiful Kruger surrounds.

There’s something special about having wildlife so close to the lodge. 🐘

At River House Lodge, the Crocodile River flows just beyond the gardens, and it’s not unusual for wildlife to make an appearance along the riverbank.

This elephant was spotted right on the riverbank below the lodge, just a short distance from our deck. A wonderful reminder of how closely connected River House is to the bushveld.

With the river below, mountains in the distance and the Lowveld stretching out around you, moments like this can happen when you least expect them.

Relax by the pool, explore Kruger and experience the beauty of the Lowveld from River House Lodge.

Today, on World Rhino Day, we celebrate one of Africa’s most iconic animals and a powerful reminder of why protecting our wild spaces matters.

These magnificent giants have roamed Africa for millions of years, playing an important role in the ecosystems they call home. Yet rhinos continue to face serious threats from poaching and habitat loss.

For us at River House Lodge, being on the doorstep of the Lowveld and close to Kruger means that encounters like this are a reminder of the incredible wildlife we share this region with.

This World Rhino Day, let’s celebrate rhinos and do our part to ensure future generations can experience them in the wild. 🦏
