Not every safari star has stripes, spots or a mane.

It's easy to become so focused on ticking off the Big Five that you miss the tiny wonders all around you. From colourful beetles and curious squirrels to chameleons, frogs and fascinating birds, it's often the smaller creatures that create the most memorable moments.

The next time you're on safari, slow down, look closer, and remember—Africa's magic isn't only found in the biggest animals. Sometimes it's hiding in the smallest details.

This striking Golden-tailed Woodpecker isn't just pecking at a tree—it could be searching for insects hidden beneath the bark or chiselling out a nest cavity. Thanks to a shock-absorbing skull and a tongue that can wrap around the back of its head, it can hammer thousands of times a day without getting a headache!

Have you ever spotted one hard at work in the bush? 🌳🐦

Did you know?

This little bird is a Crested Francolin, and despite spending most of its life on the ground, it's a surprisingly capable flier. Instead of taking off gradually, it explodes into the air with a loud burst of wingbeats when startled—often giving unsuspecting safari-goers quite a fright!

They also sleep in trees at night to stay safe from predators, only returning to the ground at first light to forage for seeds, insects, bulbs and berries.

Have you ever had a francolin suddenly burst out from the roadside? It certainly gets the heart racing! 😄

Every safari tells a different story.

Some days are slow, others are unforgettable—but every moment spent in the Kruger National Park is a reminder of just how wild and beautiful Africa truly is. 🌿🦏

🐾 Did you know?

African wild dogs have one of the strongest family bonds in the animal kingdom. Every member of the pack helps care for the pups, and after a hunt, adults will even regurgitate food for those too young, old, or injured to hunt themselves.

With fewer than 7,000 left in the wild, every sighting of these incredible predators is a privilege—and one you'll never forget.

A huge thank you to for sharing these incredible photos with us. 📸🐾

The thrill of a leopard sighting isn't always about getting the perfect photo.

Often it's that fleeting moment—a tail disappearing into the grass or a quick glance over its shoulder—that makes the encounter unforgettable. Leopards are experts at staying hidden, which is exactly why every glimpse feels so special.
