The table in our lounge has a story of its own and began with a slab of rosewood from Zambia. Wanting to preserve its natural beauty, Bill transformed it into this distinctive piece, creating an inset down the centre filled with a special moulding cement.

A taste of Morocco at Chinderera.

Pam’s Lamb Marrakesh is a Moroccan lamb casserole with North African spices, oranges and mint, served with couscous and glazed carrots.

A lovely glimpse of the African flavours she brings to our table.

Home away from home.

Our three chalets - two sleeping two guests and one sleeping four -bring together bespoke handmade furniture, African character and Bill’s love of incorporating nature into his work.

Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom, welcome coffee tray and full Wi-fi. Chalets are only a short walk to the main lodge for meals.

We can't wait to show you what African hospitality is.

Pull up a chair—there’s a story behind it.

Bill's love of nature and handmade design finds expression throughout Chinderera, including these distinctive chairs.

One features kudu horns and kudu leather. The other combines a moulded crocodile-skin pattern on the back with a buffalo-hide seat. The leather and hide were sourced from a tannery in Howick.

Each piece brings its own character to the lodge - a little glimpse of the imagination behind Chinderera. You'll find bespoke handcrafted pieces throughout the lodge and chalets, bringing Africa home.

Recent guests from Gordon's Bay, came to spend some time in the quiet of the Kosi Bay surrounds.

Nature is unique here, with Kosi Bay situated in a sand forest. We are nature enthusiasts and the lodge has been built around the beautiful trees that were here long before we were.

Some guests are quite intrigued by the "critters" we find here in the sand forest.

Last month the red-legged Kassina started making itself heard. They inhabited the pond last year but we have never seen a "teenage" Kassina!

However our recent guests spotted this specimen one evening - a Kassina busy morphing into an adult, but still had some tail. You could say "18 going on 21"!

Our recent guests were from Gordon's Bay, where it was apparently cold, rainy and windy. So they were amazed to find the weather so pleasant and warm up here, even though it rained on of one days.

Fortunately they had one day of reasonable weather and they went out with Patrick to find out all they could about the traditional fish kraals.

And they loved the experience!

There is nothing like a hot cup of coffee and a homemade shortbread biscuit on a rainy day.

Kosi Bay is known for its subtropical climate with warm to hot temperatures year-round and distinct wet and dry seasons.

During our Summer months, temperatures can reach around
29°C and in Winter, our midday high can be as mild as 23°C, with evenings dropping to about 11°C.

Rain is always welcome with most of our annual rainfall being between October and March.

But don't hold us to that! Weather can be unpredictable but our home away from home vibe isn't.
