and water supplies, in an idyllic and unspoilt location overlooking Lake Shazibe. Ancient wooded sand-dunes separate the lake from the beach, with its miles of soft, golden surf-lined beaches. Sodwana Bay lies within the Isimangaliso Wetland and Marine World Heritage National Park. It is famous for its scuba diving and its wide diversity of spectacular coral reefs. Whale sharks, ragged tooth sharks, leatherback turtles, giant manta rays, humpback whales, dolphin and a huge variety of fish all form part of the outstanding diving experience. Many dive shops and scuba centers operate in Sodwana Bay with all equipment and instructors available for hire, for novices and experienced divers alike. Deep sea fishing charters, bird-spotting, game drives to four of South Africa's major Big Five game reserves, Phinda, Thembi, Thanda and Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, micro-light flights, kite-boarding, surfing, quad-biking and horse riding trails are other activities on offer. A good supermarket is easily reached in Mbazwana, for those self-catering. Sodwana Bay is easily drivable by family car but a 4x4/SUV is preferable if off-roading.
