Nadat ons op 1 April vanjaar 25 jaar in die gasvryheidsbedryf gevier het, is Agterplaas Gastehuis, ons hoogaangeskrewe en gewilde gastehuis in Melville, Johannesburg, aan naby familie verkoop. Ons is trots daarop dat Agterplaas al vir meer as twee dekades 'n tuiste ver van die huis af is vir reisigers van regoor die wêreld en steeds deurgaans uitstekende graderings op internasionale platforms soos Booking.com, Google en Tripadvisor behaal. Beide van hulle het besluit om van die korporatiewe omgewing na iets meer intiem te beweeg. Hulle glo daar kan kwalik iets beter vir hulle wees as die tradisionele Suid-Afrikaanse waardes van die verwelkomende omgewing en persoonlike benadering by Agterplaas.
Nou is ek van plan om meer as ooit tevore te fokus op my loopbaan as sanger/liedjieskrywer, en ek is baie dankbaar vir die nuwe hoofstuk in my lewe. Ek is opgewonde en beïndruk deur Annemie en Elroy se energie, passievolle benadering en nuwe visies. Aangesien ons twee regte “foodies” is, pryk 'n pizza-oond reeds op ons patio wat oor die Melville Koppies uitkyk en ons sien daarna uit om binnekort ook 'n spa-fasiliteit op die perseel te hê. Van die grootste belang vir my is dat die besigheid, wat ek in 1999 gestig en oor die jare met oorgawe gekoester het, in die familie bly – en dat Agterplaas ook my en Therina se tuisbasis sal bly.
Ons het 'n ten volle toeganklike eenheid vir gaste in rolstoele en ons is binne vinnige bereik van hospitale, die Gautrein en van die belangrikste tersiêre instellings en media in Johannesburg. Boonop is ons wêreldbekend vir ons ontbyte en binne stapafstand van Melville se gewilde “Sewendelaan” kuierplekke. Die uitdagings van beurtkrag het toenemend 'n werklikheid geword, en ons het daarom sonkrag vir Agterplaas bekom. After celebrating 25 years in the hospitality industry on April 1 this year, Agterplaas Guest House, our highly rated and popular guest house in Melville, Johannesburg, was sold to close family! I consider the new owners: my sister-in-law, Annemie Turk, until recently General Manager of a casino/hotel in the South African hotel industry, and her fiancé, Elroy van Blerk, with his extensive experience in the hotel industry and in retail, as the ideal couple to take Agterplaas Guest House further. Both of them decided to move from the corporate environment to something more intimate. They believe that there can hardly be anything better for them than the traditional South African values of the welcoming environment and personal approach at Agterplaas.
Now I intend focusing more than ever before on my career as singer/songwriter, and I am most grateful for the new chapter in my life. I am excited and impressed by Annemie and Elroy's energy, passionate approach and new visions. Them being two real foodies, a pizza oven already graces our patio overlooking the Melville Koppies and we look forward to soon having a spa facility on the premises as well. Of the greatest importance to me is that the business, which I founded in 1999 and nurtured devotedly over the years, remains in the family - and that Agterplaas will also remain a home base for Therina and me.
We have a fully accessible unit for guests in wheelchairs and we are within easy reach of hospitals, the Gautrain and some of the most important tertiary institutions and media in Johannesburg. In addition we are world famous for our breakfasts and within walking distance of Melville's popular “Sewendelaan” hangouts. The challenges of load shedding increasingly became a reality, and we have therefore acquired solar power for Agterplaas.
