Incoming! A massive cold front pulled in last night. Lots of rain, snow and strong wind to follow. For the animals, luckily there is plenty of cover and after a good season of rain, they are all nice and fat. All of which helps deal with such conditions. For the rest of us, a good sherry and warm fire will have to do.

Feeling a little sorry for these little critters (Cape Ground Squirrels) with the sudden drop in temperatures.

The good news is that even when temperatures drop to below freezing, their burrow temperature fluctuates very little and will be between 11 and 14 degrees Celsius through the winter.

Meet Appal 🍏 (named after the Appaloosa horse breed, which are spotty).
He is one of our Nguni breeding bulls.

Nguni cattle made their way onto the African continent about 8000 years ago. Their horns and hides vary in shape and colour. They are hardy and adaptable cattle perfect for marginal veld and mountains.
