𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻.

While we’re all gazing at mountains and sunsets (and we should!), there’s an entire world of wonder happening right beneath our feet. This morning, the dew transformed a spider’s web into a masterpiece of nature’s jewellery - each droplet a tiny prism catching the light.

Spiders are master architects, spinning silk stronger than steel (proportionally!) and creating geometric perfection without blueprints or measuring tape. This web took hours to build and will be gone by afternoon, but for now, it’s pure art.

𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗦?

If you said “𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿,”you’re either a history buff, a farmer, or you cheated!

This fascinating piece of farming heritage is a ”𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘃𝗹𝗼𝗲𝗿” (in Afrikaans) - and it tells the story of how grain was harvested before fancy machinery took over.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱: farmers would spread wheat stalks on this hard, circular floor, then oxen or horses would be led around and around, trampling the grain to separate the wheat kernels from the chaff. Brilliant, right?

This one was cleverly built against a slope, which helped with the process and drainage. The sloped design made it easier to work with and collect the grain.

It’s hard, physical work that our ancestors did under the Karoo sun - a reminder of just how much effort went into every loaf of bread. These 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲, making the ones that remain even more precious.

𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗗𝗥𝗔𝗕 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗢𝗢-𝗩𝗘𝗟𝗢𝗨𝗦!

This door decided it needed a personality upgrade, and we obliged!

What was once just a plain old door is now a celebration of farm life - complete with our most distinguished resident. Because if there’s one thing Asemskep knows, it’s cows. And if there’s one thing a door needs, it’s character!

Sometimes the water holds the world so perfectly still that you can’t tell where the mountains end and their reflection begins.

This is what tranquility looks like - trees and mountains doubled in the mirror of our dam, the sky painted twice, everything hushed and peaceful. No ripples, no disturbance, just perfect stillness reflecting perfect beauty.

Come find yourself reflected in these still waters. Come find peace. Soothing to the soul doesn’t even begin to cover it.

The seasons are changing, and our ancient trees are showing the first golden hints of autumn.

Soon these trees will be ablaze with autumn colors, but right now, we’re savouring these first whispers of change. The crisp morning air, the earlier sunsets, the promise of cozy stoep evenings ahead.

𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗦𝗞𝗘𝗣, 𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗥!

There’s something special about that moment when Nieu-Bethesda Camino 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 arrive at our entrance sign - dusty boots, sun-kissed faces, and that look of accomplishment that only comes from walking the Karoo.

After kilometers of vast landscapes and open skies, our sign means rest, a warm welcome, traditional Karoo food, and a comfortable bed waiting. It means Beulah’s hospitality and the chance to truly unwind.

Every walker who poses here is part of the Camino story - and part of ours. We’re honoured to be a resting place along this incredible journey.

𝗔𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗞𝗔𝗥𝗢𝗢 𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗦𝗘𝗧 (𝗬𝗔𝗪𝗡)

Oh look, ANOTHER ridiculously spectacular sunset over the mountains.

How exhausting.
Every. Single. Evening. The sky insists on putting on this over-the-top display of oranges, pinks, purples, and golds. It’s like Mother Nature refuses to have an off day out here.

Honestly, we’ve tried to get used to it. We’ve tried to act casual. “Oh, just another stunning sunset turning the mountains into molten gold while the entire sky catches fire.”

But no. Our guests keep wandering outside with their jaws on the floor, phones forgotten in their hands, just... staring.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗼: where even the sunsets are a bit extra.
(We’re not complaining. Okay, we’re definitely not complaining.)

𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘’𝗦 𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠: 𝗟𝗔𝗠𝗕 𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

School’s in session, and today’s lesson is all about lamb nutrition – taught by the experts themselves!

Did you know that lambs can recognise their mother’s bleat from birth? Or that they start nibbling on grass at just a few weeks old, even though they’ll keep nursing for months? Watch these little ones cluster around mom at feeding time – it’s organised chaos with a lot of tail wagging!

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁: lambs are born with long tails! Farmers dock them (shorten them) for health and hygiene reasons. And those adorable bouncy hops they do? That’s called “pronking” - it’s pure joy in motion!

For city kids (and adults!), seeing lambs nursing is a beautiful reminder of where food really comes from and how nature designed the perfect system. Ewes produce milk specifically formulated for rapid lamb growth - it’s fattier and richer than cow’s milk!

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗵𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗺𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴.

𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥, 𝗚𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗨𝗦 𝗪𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥!

The rains have blessed us, and our dams are fuller than they’ve been in ages! There’s something deeply satisfying about seeing water where water should be - it’s like the Karoo letting out a contented sigh.

These tranquil dam views are exactly what your soul needs when life gets too loud. No notifications, no deadlines, just you, the water, and maybe a curious goose or two wondering.

Come sit by our dams, breathe deeply, and remember what peace feels like.
